Background: The Town of Breckenridge (TOB) has mandated that recycling bins equal to 50% of an HOA’s volume of trash per week must be installed at each property by June 1st, 2025.
- A special exemption occurs if a property has at least 70% of the units used as Short-Term Rentals. The requirement then drops to 25% of the volume. The Lift falls into that category.
- The Lift and Columbine share a 6 cubic yard trash bin emptied twice a week (12 cubic yards) and more in the busy winter months. This will allow us to only need two 96-Gallon recycling bins.
- Meetings were held with the High Country Conservation Center (H3C) several times regarding different placement options and possible financial assistance. Grants may be available on a first come, first served basis until funds are exhausted. Maximum grant request is $10,000. All projects will be reviewed by staff and a final site visit must be completed before reimbursement is issued.
- Recycling will be ‘Single Stream’. Glass will not be allowed due to it contaminating the cardboard. Signs will be posted.
The first idea was to place bins in the landings. That idea was dropped due to: Unsightly, smelly, loud when closing lid, and animals surprising guests. Blue River would have to move them each recycle day and leave them outside our existing dumpster, and then move them back at the end of the day.
Final Decision for placement
Open south wall and place bins partly into current enclosure, and build a small extension. Best option after considering all others. Other complexes have built ‘Bump outs’ to match their existing architectures.

High Maintenance for refinishing

Only half of top opens

Expensive, too small

Sliding doors – same container as on right but with siding.

Only half of top opens, not animal resistant
