Adding a Range Extender
If you are having issues with the hub not communicating with the lock, you may need a device called a ‘Repeater’ or ‘Range Extender’. It will help bounce the signal from the Hub to the lock.
Setting up the remote lock operation from scratch
Sign up for SmartThings in the SmartThings app
First, get the free SmartThings mobile app for Android or iOS.
After downloading and installing the SmartThings app on your smartphone:
- Open the SmartThings app
- Touch Sign In
- Touch Create account
- Touch Agree for the Samsung Terms and Conditions, Terms of Services, and Samsung Privacy Policy
- Enter your email address
- Enter your password (at least eight characters containing at least one number and one letter)
- Confirm your password
- Enter your first and last name
- Enter your ZIP code and date of birth
- Touch Next
- Touch Done
- Select your country
- Touch Continue
Set up a SmartThings Hub
In the SmartThings app:
- From the Home screen, touch the Plus (+) icon and select Add device
- Touch SmartThings, touch Wi-Fi/Hub, and then SmartThings Hub IM6001-V3
- Select how you’d like to connect your Hub by touching Wi-Fi or Ethernet
- Follow the in-app instructions to connect your Hub, which are reproduced here:
- Connect your Hub using the included power cable and, if necessary, network cable
- Don’t unplug the Hub during the setup process. Setup will take 5-10 minutes to complete
- Touch Next
- Using your mobile device’s camera, scan the QR code located on the back of the Hub
- If necessary, touch OK to give SmartThings access to your camera
- If you’re having trouble scanning the QR code, touch Add device by serial number and enter the code manually
- Touch Next
- If you are setting up the Hub via Wi-Fi:
- Select your Wi-Fi network
- Enter your Wi-Fi network’s password, then touch Connect
- Wait a few moments while your Hub is connected
- Touch Tap here to set a location to set a geolocation for your Hub
- Hold and drag the pin to your location, or enter your address manually
- Pinch and zoom the circle to set the size of the geolocation
- Touch Done
- When the Hub is successfully added, touch Done
If you have not already created a Location, adding a SmartThings Hub will automatically create a Location (with the default name Home), which is the main launch pad for your connected Hub, devices, and Scenes.
Connect your Things
- From the Home screen, touch the Plus (+) icon and select Add device
- Scroll down and select ‘Door locks”
- Select Schlage
- Select ‘Schlage Connect Z-Wave’
- Follow the on-screen pairing steps including removing the Battery cover
- Press the small button
- When the device is discovered, a message will appear that the device was successfully connected to your SmartThings Hub
- Touch Edit to rename the device
- When finished, touch Done
- Touch Done again to confirm
